Mexican Revolution, C.1910-29, Zapata and Pancho Villa period. 36" length. Made in two pieces with commercially bent top from another cane and hand-shaped (not lathe-turned) shaft decorated its full length in colored cultural and patriotic motifs including the eagle and snake, cactus and floral displays, winged Aztec god, jaguar, and MEXICO. The decoration incised and sin chip work on textured backgrounds and color. The motifs definitely expressing patriotic fervor, not tourist taste. The shaft is a bit irregular as carved and with cracks from being made of greenwood. Wonderful early Mexican character and the only such example we have encountered.
